Al Gasden, a Vietnam veteran, talks to the camera. “I was assigned to an infantry unit even though I really had no real training in infantry. As we got closer to the front lines, the ranks got blacker. And being that I was an officer in the Army at that point in time, I had a very moral decision to make. Am I going to be a black officer and just let the troops be sent out to the front line, or am I just going to be a black officer and make it through myself and just forget everybody else?”
