Legendary filmmaker Melvin Van Peebles talks about the need for black heroes in his films.  His 1971 feature Sweet Sweetback's Baadaaassss Song is consiered by many to be a classic.  Van Peebles' current film screened last August in New York:  "Confessions of a Ex-Doofus Itchy-Footed Mutha."
