African Liberation Day, Washington, DC - 1975
African Liberation Day Steering Committee member Frank Shefton discusses the media reaction to the demonstration. "You mentioned the figure of 30,000 people. We had talked quite a bit about the idea that it was more like 60,000 people. The Washington Post reported 30,000. The New York Times said it was only 9000. The DC police said it was 60,000 that day but that estimate shrank like that in the newspapers. And the media really played down the importance of the whole demonstration across this country."
