Robert DeLeo

A Massachusetts native from Winthrop, DeLeo is a graduate of Boston Latin School, Northeastern University, and Suffolk University Law School. He has been a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives since 1991, and became Speaker of the House in 2009.

In March 2010, DeLeo proposed bringing two resort-style casinos and racetrack slot machines to Massachusetts, with Governor Patrick and State Sen. Therese Murray showing opposition to the introduction of slots but general acceptance of the casino portion of DeLeo’s plan.
