Call the Midwife, based on the best-selling memoirs of the late Jennifer Worth, returns for a third series. Nonnatus House opens its doors to warmly welcome the audience back into 1950s East End London and follows Poplar’s community of exceptional midwives and nursing nuns. Join them for a new year of births, babies, and bicycling, as well as some blossoming romance.

Call the Midwife: "Holiday Special"

Premieres Friday, Dec. 26, at 9pm on WGBH 2

The nuns and nurses are celebrating their first Christmas in their new premises, and all is not calm. Rehearsals for the Sunday School concert are underway (and underfoot), two unmarried patients are dispatched to a badly managed home for pregnant women, Chummy takes charge after an outbreak of chicken pox and Dr. Turner treats a destitute elderly couple. As the New Year draws near, everyone wonders: What will 1960 bring?
