Is GBH not broadcasting Great Performances at the Met? I had my calendar marked, based on the national listing, but when I tried to check local times I discovered there dont seem to be any air dates scheduled. Why does this series page contain absolutely no information? After a lot of digging around, its become apparent that if I lived in Rhode Island or New Hampshire, Id at least have a chance to find out when these operas are airing and watch them, but not here. Im astounded. I should think Boston would be a major market for this series. I see from the comments below that viewers have had similar concerns for some time. Id love to be proven wrong. If its actually the case that were not getting these broadcasts, its a real disservice to our city.

Is there some way that this website could be improved to show the actual schedule of Great Performances at the Met on WGBH? Why are the old performances from 2 and 3 years ago shown here, and just 2 of the upcoming shows? I would find it more useful to show the past months schedule and the next months schedule. Id find it valuable to know what operas I had missed and could watch for on a repeat, as well as what is coming up that I could plan to watch or record. Thank you.

FINALLY, I got to see "Armida" at the ONLY time scheduledI guess Fleming isnt equal to Bocelli!. The idea of cramming all of the operas on one weekend is an expression of contempt the new WGBH. Why not one a week at prime time? We operalovers have to be grateful for mere gestures from the Philistines running things who cant even get their schedules straight, or make the webpage for Great Performances functional. Have you tried clicking on "More" for "Armida"??" Nothing.

I agree with Peter I really enjoyed all the programs, but I was disappointed that Romeo and Juliet was played instead of Peter Grimes. I would have watched Romeo and Juliet had I known this beforehand!!

Peter commented on Great Performances at the Met on 09.05.10
Im grateful for the Opera Bash and that "Armida" was rescheduled, but I too am frustrated that youre not following your announced schedule. Right now youre showing "Romeo et Juliette" instead of the announced "Peter Grimes"! Apparently you showed "Tales of Hoffmann" last night though its scheduled for tonight. Will it be on again tonight? If you have to change your schedule, cant you let us know and explain why via the website, or Facebook or Twitter?

It is sad that WGBH treats opera broadcast in the digital era, when both the sound and the visuals are so much better than before, so much worse than it did in the analogue era when it had to resort to simulcast for the sound. Sigh.

James commented on Great Performances at the Met on 09.05.10
Cant you keep to your own schedule? Like the previous poster, I wanted to catch the Hamlet, but you showed Tales of Hoffmann instead. WGBH treats its opera public with contempt. I guess our "segment" is too small to matterwell our contributions will match.

Kalman commented on Great Performances at the Met on 09.05.10
I just tuned in, and they have Tales of Hoffman on but according to the schedule, thats supposed to be TOMORROW morning. Arghhh.

A colon got got dropped from the kicker below Something beats nothing the Opera Dump is something. Unfortunately, information on MacBeth is nothing one cant get information on that 930 p.m. to midnight program from the schedule. Oh, well. Im happy to be able to hear opera.

Alfred commented on Great Performances at the Met on 09.04.10
The Opera Dump has weaknesses, for reasons too obvious to recount, but I am grateful to rehear great operas and some new to me. The people in the Boston area have things good. Since WCRB dropped the Mets radio broadcasts, weak signals from Cambridge and Amherst have meant that my decades of listening are over. In the 1940s, my mother listened to the Mets Saturday matinées on Worcester AM radio. She had things better. Something beats nothing the Opera Dump is something.

Why are you showing operas from the past season instead of the productions from the 2009/2010 season on September 45 opera bash?

Kalman commented on Great Performances at the Met on 08.27.10
Unfortunately, those of us who live in Boston and rely on over the air TV cant make use of channel 11s broadcast. WGBH schedule claims that it will broadcast Armida at 1 am Wednesday morning September 1, I plan to attempt to record it then.

For all those fed up with WGBHs treatment of the Great Performances at the Met, New Hampshire Public TV is showing Armida at the civilized hour of 2 pm on Sunday August 29.

Becky commented on Great Performances at the Met on 08.24.10
WGBH opera fans, "Great Performances at the Met Armida" will be broadcast on WGBH 2 on Sunday, September 12 at 1230pm length 3 hours. We had planned on getting an advance copy for broadcast on August 15, however we were unable to get it in time for our early release. We hope you enjoy Armida, and don’t forget to tune into Opera Bash 2010, Labor Day weekend from noon Saturday until midnight Sunday on WGBH 44!

Marcia commented on Great Performances at the Met on 08.15.10
Once again you are showing your contempt for opera lovers! No advance info that you cancel todays Armina and whats with showing Carmen only in the middle of the night. Clearly none of the complaints ever reach the arrogant ones at the top of this increasingly shoddy operation!

Peter commented on Great Performances at the Met on 08.15.10
I too am angry that "Armida" was scheduled for August 15 on WGBH and has now vanished from the schedule. "Great Performances at the Met" is one of my main reasons for watching PBS.

Daniel commented on Great Performances at the Met on 08.14.10
I am really fed up with GBH. This summer I have only been able to find ONE Met broadcast of the eight or ten that should have been available. Armida was scheduled for 15 August at 130 but now I see that only the usual tripe is scheduled. What kind of fools think that Andrew Rieu equals opera? Instead of donating to GBH again this year, Ill be spending my money at the Saturday afternoon HD broadcasts at the Showcase Cinema in Revere.

Kalman commented on Great Performances at the Met on 05.01.10
The link for the performance tomorrow of Rosenkavalier doesnt even point to the description of the opera, just to the generic "Great Performances at the MET page". In my opinion, WGBH has gone WAY downhill. Time to move to New Hampshire.

Daniel commented on Great Performances at the Met on 04.24.10
This has been a huge disappointment to me. I cant seem to find any Met operas on Ch 2. And Ch 44 is on the other side of the moon as far as Im concerned! Ive switched viewing habits and will switch donations to New Hampshire Public Television aka Ch 11, which is broadcasting Der Rosenkavalier on Sunday at 330pm.

Daniel commented on Great Performances at the Met on 01.23.10
Well, gosh, speak to Peter Gelb! The Met broadcasts nine operas to movie theaters around the world, and the same nine operas are later broadcast on PBS and, if were lucky, released on DVD. The only problem I have with the PBS broadcasts is that they fall on a Sunday afternoon, and in the nature of things many of them wind up in the summertime. Not only would I rather be outdoors, but I dont have any shades or curtains in the living room, requiring me to get up close to the LCD screen when the sun is shining.

Fully agree with St. Mathew and share his passiion.

Matthew commented on Great Performances at the Met on 11.21.09
I wished you showed these a little more regularly. And I wish you showed them in HD. Even if you showed them in the middle of the night, that would be great I could record them and watch later.

Donald Warner commented on Great Performances at the Met on 09.05.09
Ah, the opera channel ! How great to go about things and in the background the opera channel.
