I live in Gloucester and there are coyotes across the street. I got concerned a few years ago and so I looked them up online. In about 10 minutes I read all of what the animal control officer said on the show, which basically said that the state reps law was a waste of time and based on a complete lack of understanding as to what the reality is. I could not believe that people like her go around talking without doing a few minutes worth of research, and that the host Emily wished her luck on her bill at the end of the interview. What was she listening to? Why didnt she do a few minutes of research? Like that animal officer said, they are here to stay, can be dealt with rationally within existing laws and ignorance is the biggest problem. Also, coyotes do not overpopulate. Gloucester actually has a large rat population but there are fewer of them as long as a coyote is around.

Codys owner should NOT have been letting the dog out offleash. Had Cody been on a leash, Cody would likely be alive today. Coyotes are here to stay as John Maguranis states from his long experience in animal control. Coyotes play an important role in controlling small animal population.

More coyotes have been seen in suburbs across Massachusetts – sometimes attacking children and even killing dogs. But the state’s strict trapping laws make it difficult to do anything about the troublesome animals. Spencer Rep. Anne Gobi tells Emily her plan to fix the problem and help keep coyotes out of your neighborhood.
