Peter Meade was very passionate in his defense of the request for partial public funding of the center for late Senator Ted Kennedy. My response is very simple. No Way!!! Ted Kennedy squandered much of our taxpayer money when he served in the US Senate. He is gone enough with squandering taxpayer money. All Presidential libraries are built with private donations. Let the same be done with this Kennedy center. When his beloved Mother, Rose, died we found that even though she spent most of her elderly years at the Kennedy compound in Hyannis she was actually a resident of Florida. Why, to avoid Massachusetts inheritance taxes. That’s why. The Kennedys have always been good at spending other people’s money. Let them spend family money on the Kennedy center and NOT taxpayer money. Peter Meade pointed out that most students never get to Washington DC to see the US Senate. Why don’t the Kennedys step forward and create a scholarship fund for these students? A program (such as an internship) could be used to sponsor students for a few weeks to learn how the US government works. A scholarship fund could also be set up to show students how state and local government works. The Kennedys and their supporters have plenty of money that could be used for this purpose. Once the Kennedy center is built then I guess the taxpayers of the Commonwealth would be called upon to maintain the building and pay its staff. Here we go again. We are broke and are being asked to spend more money we don’t have. Ted Kennedy is pending our money even when he is no longer in the US Senate. Vinnie from Tewksbury

Construction on the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate is slated to begin this fall. There has been recent criticism that the $60 million dollars in federal funding is excessive in the current economic climate.
