Emily Rooney proves Bill Keatings point when he says people dont know about Jeff Perrys involvement with the illegal strip searches of two teenage girls that took place in Wareham in 1991 and 1992 when she states that "in fact no one was ever charged with sexual assault" and characterizes the issue as a single "incident" rather than two separate, but similar incidents. Officer Scott Flanagan was in fact indicted, pled guilty, and was sentenced to four years in prison for indecent assault of the two minor girls. It boggles me as to why Perry was not charged criminally as he was the senior officer at the scene while one girl age 14 was searched while crying and screaming for help. In the other case, he was not present, but took disturbing and clearly intentional steps to cover up the incident for Officer Flanagan. In addition, the families of these two girls filed successful civil suits in which Perry was named a defendant. His name was removed from one of the cases, which did go to trial and a jury awarded the victim $50,000 plus interest and attorneys fees. The other case was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. This information is all out there, but as Keating said, people dont read the papers.
Norfolk District Attorney Bill Keating is looking to succeed outgoing Congressman Bill Delahunt. But first he has to get past state representative Jeff Perry – a Republican whose Tea Party-fueled campaign is generating buzz locally and nationally. And now the race is getting nasty as both sides launch negative campaigns online.
