I am watching your program about finishing a table top. You and your buddy were fixing a dent in the table top by sanding in a circle to remove the dent. In the Army we had to remove dents from our M1 rifles, long ago. We would put a few drops of water on the dent and then rub it with a side of a drinking glass. With a little elbow grease, the dent would raise to the surface.

Tommy, I began watching you some time back....a retired 63 year old Deputy Chief of Police and retired funeral director witha passion for making rifle/shotgun and pistol stocks. You really grow on me and although I didnt think I [an old know it all] could learn from you, I have and do. You seem to be the kind of guy that would be nice to have a beer with....although young enough to be one of my sons. Good luck. Ill keep watching. Mark

The drop-leaf table featured on this episode of Rough Cut has a lot of bang for the buck. Not only is the Shaker-type style beautiful to look at, but the finger joints are fun to learn how to make.

To get inspiration for this project, Tommy takes a Road Trip to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston to see drop-leaf and gate-leg tables from centuries past. Back in the shop, Tommy is joined by Chuck Bender of The Acanthus Workshop in Pennsylvania.
