Today's show is dedicated to exploring the legacy or MLK as well as the sanitizing of MLK’s image.  Guests are Rep Byron Rushing, Democrat from the 90th District. Rushing (a graduate of Harvard College and MIT, is a history buff and leads historical tours of Roxbury); Rev. Cheryl Townsend Gilkes, who is the John D. and Catherine T. McArthur Professor of Sociology and African-American Studies at Colby College in Maine. She is also assistant pastor of Union Baptist Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts and host of a gospel radio show, The Uncloudy Day, on WMHB in Waterville Colby College’s station; and Diane McWhorter, author of the Pulitizer Prize winning book, “Carry Me Home: Birmingham and the Climatic Battle for Civil Rights” and the children’s book “A Dream of Freedom” about the civil rights movement from 1954-1965.

Later in the hour, we hear winning MLK essays from area school children and some music from the recent MLK Tribute concert with the Boston Children’s Chorus (which aired originally on 99.5 All Classical on From the Top).
