Deconstructing Obama, Part II
We’re talking about President Obama and the criticism he’s been getting from his own base. Many supporters seem frustrated with the way he handled the debt ceiling debacle and the nation’s credit rating downgrade. Last week, we spoke with one of his critics, political consultant Drew Westen, whose op-ed in the New York Times called for the return of candidate Obama-- the man who used his rhetorical flair to engage voters. Today we get another take on Obama from James Kloppenberg.
James Kloppenberg is the author of Reading Obama: Dreams, Hope, and the American Political Tradition. He’s the Charles Warren Professor of American History; and Chair of the Department of History at Harvard University.
