Made in America

From Charles Ives's adventurous hymnody in the early 1900s to Morten Lauridsen's hypnotic sounds in the late 1990s, host Anthony Trecek-King takes you through works that defined the 20th Century in American choral music.

Hear the works of the mavericks, the mystics, the melodists, and rule-breakers in the American Century of choral music, including such notable works as "The Hour Glass" by Irving Fine, "Chichester Psalms" by Leonard Bernstein, "Knee Play No. 1" from "Einstein on the Beach" by Philip Glass, and David Del Tredici's "Acrostic Song" from "Final Alice."

ABOUT TOGETHER IN SONG

Together in Song is a celebration of the art - and community - of choruses, featuring performances drawn from choirs around the world and from right here in New England.

Join host Anthony Trecek-King on Classical New England each Sunday at 6pm, and listen on-demand below.

There’s a reason choral music has been called "The First Art." The simple act of joining voices together - be it in devotion, in sorrow, or in celebration - is one of the oldest impulses of the human community. It has given rise to some of the greatest works of Western art over the centuries, and programs like Glee on television and the phenomenal popularity of college a cappella groups reflect the irresistible vitality of choral music.

Together in Song is a celebration of both choral music and of the myriad ensembles and personalities who present it, woven together by host Anthony Trecek-King, artistic director of the Boston Children’s Chorus.

Tune in each Sunday at 6pm and listen on-demand to choral art through legendary and recent recordings, as well as performances from our own New England back yard.
