Is the Victory Garden coming back? I record them and all I get is repeats! I have been watching since Jim Crockett days. We need more of these shows esp. now with the economy. There are people starting to raise chickens, back to gardening. Would be a shame to loose viewership. I think going back to the old format would be great. Gardening in small spaces. We need a local person too! I miss Marion Morash too!

II am so sick of PBS airing only repeats of this show. It was my favorite gardening show before Jamie Durie started hosting, it would be nice if they got back to the real premise of the show. So many people in my community have started their own victory gardens and there are not any gardening shows addressing this renewed interest. I am very surprised at Public TV not taking the lead on this

It seems odd that during a time when gardening and gardening TV shows are more popular than ever, the one Ive been eagerly enjoying for half my life is no longer producing new material. Victory Garden always did it best, in my opinion, no matter what the era and who hosted. Were pulling for you, WGBH. Cant someone pick this show up and run with it?

As with all the other comments, I find the continual repeating of inane episodes very very annoying. There is never an original or new piece, just the same old stuff over and over. Redefine the concept create a new look all fine. But why are there never any new episodes? Or, finally, just give it up and take it off the air. But I object strenuously to the stick and carrot concept of replaying the same episodes ad infinitum.

WAY BACK 30 YEARS AGO I USED TO WATCH THIS SHOW EVERY WEEK. ONE OF THE REASONS AND PROBABLY THE PRIMARY REASON I EVER PURCHASED A VCR WAS SO I COULD RECORD THIS AND 2 OTHER GARDENING SHOWS ON PBS. NOW I SELDOM WATCH AND IF I DO I RECORD THE SHOW AND FAST FORWARD USUALLY THROUGH ALL BUT 5 MINUTES, SKIPPING OVER THE DIFFERENT BOTANICAL GARDEN SEGMENTS TO PLACES I NEITHER HAVE THE TIME OR DESIRE TO DRIVE THOUSANDS OF MILES TO VISIT.
WHEN CROCKETT WAS IN CHARGE AND GOD REST HIS SOUL HOSTING THE SHOW BACK IN THE DAY, YOU REALLY LEARNED SOMETHING. I REMEMBER WHEN THEY TOOK A VACANT ROCK FILLED LOT OUTSIDE THE WGBH STUDIO IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY AND WITH HARD WORK AND MANY MAN HOURS TURNED IT INTO A "REAL" VICTORY GARDEN! WHY CAN WE LOOSE ALL THE DESIGNER HYPE, GET BACK TO THE BASICS OF GARDENING AND START TEACHING AMERICANS HOW TO GROW THEIR OWN FOOD. THERE IS A BIG PUSH IN THIS COUNTRY TO GROW ORGANIC AND IF NOT ORGANIC THEN WITH LIMITED CHEMICAL USE. WGBH IS MISSING OUT A WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY TO TEACH THIS COUNTRY HOW TO BECOME SELF SUFFICIENT ONCE AGAIN.
INSTEAD OF SHOWING GARDENS TO GO ISIT FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD ...SHOW VICTORY GARDENS FROM DIFFERENT REGIONS OF THE UNITED STATES. THE GROWING CONDITIONS AT THE SAME TIME OF THE YEAR ARE NEVER THE SAME. I KNOW, I MOVED FROM KENTUCKYINDIANA TO TEXAS AND BOY DID I EVER HAVE TO RETHINK WHAT I HAD SPENT A LIFE TIME LEARNING. THINGS LIKE THIS ARE IMPORTANT TO KNOW AND SURE WOULD HAVE SAVED ME MANY HOURS OF TIME AND LABOR HAD I KNEW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW.
AND FOR THE RECORD...CROCKETTS BOOK "ICTORY GARDEN" WAS THE FIRST BOOK ON GARDENING I EVER PURCHASED...AND THE SECOND...WAS THE BOOK BY MR THOMPSON

Back in the 70s I used to tape Victory Garden on my cassett player, faithfully every week. This was before the days of being able to video tape the shows. James Underwood Crockett was my Gardening Teacher via the TV. I bought the curved, red handled trowel and made a notched planting board, as Jim instructed. I used them for many years. I purchased all the TimeLife books he wrote. I still have those cassette tapes. I only wish I had him on video to rewatch. I still continued to watch this show when Thompson and Jim Wilson would MC it. We need the step by step guides that those men taught, especially now, for the younger, beginning gardeners. Crockett used to take us to other gardens, also. Thats always a pleasure to view but the step by step gardening tips for veggies, flowers, and fruits is greatly needed again. Crockett would also have instructions for soil prep. as well as greenhouse gardening tips. I do enjoy Jamie and some of the other fellas but I too, would love to see the James U. Crockett shows again. If you cant do that would you make the old video tapes available for purchase? Jim C. made gardening fun and he was so full of valuable information. My husband and I are so bored with the same V.G. repeats, that we hardly ever watch this show anymore. Thanks for allowing our comments.

I no longer watch this show. When it was a real victory garden it was wonderful each week going into depth on fruits and vegetables that can be grown in the garden for food. The time for real victory gardens has come again. This visiting botanic gardens, and promoting the planting of nonnative plants is way out of touch in todays world. What a sad loss.

It is so sad to see the demise of Victory Garden. You had a winning formula and decided to fix something that was not broken. It has gone downhill ever since Michael was booted off the show. I hope WGBH at least picks up Michael Weishans new show Garden Earth show.

My family have been watching Victory Garden for years until just recently. We have stopped watching because you keep running the same shows over and over and over. Make some new shows.
Harold commented on Victory Garden on 11.18.10
I would really be interested in the original episodes from Crockett and Thompson. I remember those shows when my kids were young. They would watch the shows with me then we would play in the garden.

You repeat many shows ad nauseum, but only show this once. Why?
