I listened to your segment on the Cure Lounge incident and just wanted to say as someone who grew up in Boston, went to Harvard College, lived around the world and recently moved back to the area that Im embarrassed and shocked that something so blatant and unjust could occur in my hometown in 2010. Though I also recently witnessed 2 available taxis speeding by a black potential passenger, and slowing down on the next block to let in white passengers. Frankly, I was also embarrassed on behalf of the Cure Lounge spokesmans attempt at engaging in an open and substantive conversation. I emerge from this show sure about one thing I have zero intentions of patronizing Cure Lounge, at least until theres a conclusive investigation about what happened on November 20. Thank you, Callie keep up the great work.
City Councilor Ayanna Pressley is calling for an investigation after a recent incident in which black students and alumni from Harvard and Yale were kicked out prematurely from a party they were attending at the at Cure Lounge in the heart of Boston. The students allege that club owners explained that they were worried the crowd would attract "local gangbangers." The incident has inflamed students, who say that they were victims of overt racism. Today we'll hear from Councilor Pressley, a third year student at Harvard Law school who was present at the club that night, and a spokesperson for the club. We're also joined by WGBH's Senior Investigative Reporter, Phillip Martin, who has reported on the racial divisions in Boston's nightlife.
