About History Detectives
America's History Detectives prove that an object found in an attic or backyard might be anything but ordinary. Tukufu Zuberi, professor of sociology and the director of the Center for Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Gwendolyn Wright, professor of architecture at Columbia University, Elyse Luray, independent appraiser and expert in art history, and Wesley Cowan, independent appraiser and auctioneer, leave no stone unturned as they travel around the country to explore the stories behind local folklore, prominent figures, and family legends.
This episode fills in the moving story behind letters from a Civil War soldier to his brother and his desire to lead an African American unit. Then, Tukufu Zuberi sets out to identify the source of a piece of fabric with signatures of Charles Lindbergh and helicopter inventor Igor Sikorsky. Finally, did black artists create the 1950's comic book, Negro Romance?
