If you’ve ever been to the symphony, you know who that guy or gal with the baton and tailcoat is, gesticulating wildly before the orchestra. But, do you actually know what a conductor does? As the Boston Symphony Orchestra prepares to dive headlong into a post-James Levine era, Classical New England’s Brian McCreath joins us to explain just how important a conductor is — or isn't — to an orchestra.
